Prevention Methods

Why is protection important during sexual intercourse?

If pregnancy is not desired or planned, contraceptive methods are very important for couples and should be considered before undesirable consequences. Unwanted pregnancies resulting from unprotected intercourse can also bring psychological problems for couples. It is essential to be protected in order to prevent the need for abortion, that is, to terminate the pregnancy, and to prevent the couple from getting worn out in the future.

What are the healthiest methods of contraception?

The healthiest method may vary from person to person. Depending on the patient's age, general health condition, menstrual pattern and amount of bleeding, and frequency of intercourse, you can consult with a gynecologist and decide together which method is suitable for you.
Protection Methods for Women

There are natural and unnatural methods of female contraception. Protection methods are not a decision that only women or only men should make alone. Protection is possible for every individual with the decision made by the couple together. It is possible to be protected naturally or in other ways, thanks to contraceptive methods without a condom.

  • Spiral (intrauterine device): It is an intrauterine device placed in the uterus, T-shaped, with a specialized structure to be removed from the vaginal canal with a thread at the end. This device is frequently preferred by women who decide that they have reached a sufficient number of births and do not think about pregnancy for a long time. Thanks to its copper and hormone-secreting types, it reduces sperm movements in the uterus or prevents the formation of a fertilization environment. It provides up to 5-10 years of use and 99% protection.
  • Birth control pills: Birth control pills, which must be used in different orders depending on the type of pills, prevent fertilization by stimulating the secretion of estrogen and progesterone hormones. Provides 93% high protection.
  • Injection: It is a birth control method provided by hormones injected under the skin at 2-month or 3-month follow-ups. Provides 96% protection.
  • Subcutaneous capsule: Monthly hormonal control is provided with a small silicone capsule placed in the arm and under the skin. It prevents fertilization and ovulation. Thanks to the capsules applied during a period when there is no suspicion of pregnancy, 99% protection is provided for up to 3-5 years.
  • Diaphragm: It is a small, rubberized dome-shaped device that is placed in the cervix before intercourse. It prevents semen from reaching the uterus during intercourse. It can be washed and used. It can be removed after 6 hours of intercourse. It is 87-90% protective.
  • Female condom: Condoms used by men and which need to be renewed every time they have intercourse, also provide a different structure for women. The female condom is a latex condom that is placed on the cervix before intercourse. It should be removed after intercourse, as the sperm will get filled here and will not reach the uterus. It provides nearly 80% protection.
  • Spermicide: Sperm movements must be healthy in order for the sperm to progress into the tubes in the uterus. Thanks to spermicide drugs, sperm movements are prevented and fertilization does not occur. Provides 70-80% protection. For the most reliable contraceptive methods, spermicide should not be used alone, but in combination with devices such as an intrauterine device, condom or diaphragm. In this way, the protection rate can be up to 90-95%.
  • Tubal ligation: It is a procedure to tie the tubes for women who say that they have reached a sufficient number of births or do not want to give birth. With ovulation, the egg reaches the uterus and fertilization takes place here. Once the tubes are tied, the chance of fertilization is close to 0%.
  • Breastfeeding: A natural protection mechanism occurs in women due to breastfeeding in the few months after birth until the first menstrual period. Even if there is intercourse within the first 6 months, fertilization does not occur and it is a natural contraceptive method with a high protection rate.
  • Calendar method: Fertilization and ovulation time can be determined by following the menstrual cycle in women. When these dates are known and the relationship is according to the calendar, birth control and planned pregnancies are possible.
